We are calling on Spanish and European authorities to review current border practices affecting people along migration routes between Morocco and Spain.

Available reports and documented patterns indicate situations that may be consistent with practices that limit or prevent access to asylum procedures, and that raise concerns under international protection standards. This petition seeks accountability, transparency, and full alignment with international human rights and refugee law.

We are particularly concerned about accounts and documented patterns of individuals being returned shortly after interception at sea or at border areas, in some cases without clear access to asylum procedures. These concerns relate to the principle of non-refoulement, which prohibits returning individuals to places where they may face harm, as well as to broader obligations under the European Convention on Human Rights and international refugee law.

In this context, we are calling for stronger safeguards to ensure that every person intercepted in border zones is guaranteed access to asylum procedures, and that returns are carried out in full compliance with legal obligations. We also call for improved independent monitoring of border operations and greater transparency in how procedures are applied in practice.

This petition is not intended as a confrontation, but as a call for constructive engagement with institutions responsible for border governance. Strengthening accountability and transparency ultimately reinforces trust in the system and ensures that human rights protections remain central to migration management.

We submit this petition in the spirit of ensuring that European border practices remain consistent with the legal and humanitarian standards they are built upon.

Why This Matters

When people are pushed back, the consequences are immediate and severe. They are exposed to further harm, left without protection, and forced into even more dangerous situations along irregular migration routes.

Their rights are not just overlooked—they are actively denied under systems that often ignore migrant human rights violations and weaken refugee rights Europe protections.

We call on policymakers to:

Immediate action is needed to strengthen compliance with international legal obligations at borders and to ensure full and effective access to asylum procedures for all individuals arriving at border areas.

Establish independent monitoring mechanisms to improve transparency and accountability in border management practices, in line with international human rights standards.

Guarantee access to essential protections for all people seeking asylum, including interpretation services, legal assistance, and fair and accessible procedures.

Strengthen accountability mechanisms to ensure that border practices are consistent with international law and that any allegations of misconduct are properly reviewed through independent and transparent processes.

By signing this petition, you are supporting calls for governments and institutions to uphold human rights, ensure access to asylum, and manage borders in a manner that is lawful, transparent, and consistent with international protection standards.
